HOT 1027 takes to the skies for the 10th Annual Children's Flight

The 10th Annual Children’s Flight took off today at Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria, giving more than 1,000 underprivileged children the chance to experience the magic of aviation—many for the very first time. The initiative, now a decade strong, is designed to uplift and inspire children from disadvantaged backgrounds by offering them a once-in-a-lifetime flight aboard helicopters, small aircraft and charter planes.

The children, aged between 6 and 13, were treated like VIPs from the moment they arrived. The day included guided tours of aircraft, fun activities, snacks, and the highlight—taking to the skies above Pretoria. For many, this was not only their first flight but also their first glimpse into a world of possibility beyond their everyday circumstances.

Supported by a passionate aviation community, volunteers, and sponsors—including HOT 102.7FM and Hot Cares—the Children’s Flight has grown into a powerful symbol of hope, joy, and generosity.

Live broadcasts from the event captured heartfelt moments as wide-eyed young passengers stepped off the tarmac with huge smiles and memories to last a lifetime.

A group of smiling children wearing yellow beanies and white shirts gather outdoors at an event. One child in the front wears orange sunglasses and points happily at the camera. People and tents are visible in the background.

This event constitutes more than just a flight—it’s a spark of inspiration, showing these children that their dreams can truly take flight.
