Teddython 2026: The day that makes a year of giving possible

Reverend Shona joined HOT 1027 Breakfast this morning with an important date for your diary: Teddython 2026 takes place on Friday, 6 November — and pre-pledges open from 1 October.

For Hot Cares, Teddython is far more than one big fundraising day. The money, goods and services pledged at Teddython directly shape how much Hot Cares is able to do in the year that follows.

Every intervention, every organisation supported and every life changed depends on the generosity shown by listeners, businesses and partners on that one extraordinary day.

Speaking on HOT 1027 Breakfast, Bunny and Shona reflected on some of the people and organisations Hot Cares has been able to support during 2026.

For Mandela Day, at the Frida Hartley Shelter, support for vulnerable women and children included improvements to the daycare, essential equipment, energy and water solutions, and practical assistance designed to make a lasting difference.

Through organisations such as Stepping Stones, Hot Cares has been able to support people facing incredibly difficult circumstances, while its animal welfare work has extended from abandoned pets to wildlife conservation, including support for elephant protection initiatives.

They are very different stories, but together they demonstrate the four pillars at the heart of Hot Cares: Humanitarian & Welfare, Healthcare & Medical, Education and Animal Welfare.

And importantly, none of this happens in isolation.

What Hot Cares is able to give throughout the year is determined by what South Africans give at Teddython.

That is why we are asking individuals and companies to start thinking now about what they could contribute — whether that is a cash donation, goods, professional services, equipment or another meaningful pledge.

You don’t have to wait until 6 November either.

From 1 October, pre-pledges for Teddython 2026 will officially open, giving businesses and individuals the opportunity to commit their support ahead of the big day.

Because a pledge made at Teddython doesn’t make a difference for just one day.

It gives Hot Cares the ability to keep making a difference all year long.
