HOT 1027 turns up the heat at the New York Festivals Awards
We’re beyond thrilled to share some hot news — HOT 1027 has been shortlisted for two awards at the 2025 New York Festivals Radio Awards, and we’re the ONLY South African radio station to make the list!
Known as the “Oscars of the radio world,” these awards celebrate the best in global audio storytelling — and we’re honoured to be in such world-class company.
But that’s not all… For the first time ever, our incredible digital team has also been recognised on the international stage, with a nomination in the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards for our Hot Cares Christmas 2024 campaign. It’s a proud moment to see our community work standing tall on a global platform.

This year, we’re shortlisted for:
- Best News Report/Feature: Human Interest Feature – “Blindspot”
- Best News Programme: News Documentary/Special – “Derailed”
- Corporate Image: Corporate Social Responsibility for Non Profit – “Hot Cares Christmas 2024”
Both stories were brought to life by our dedicated HOT 1027 News team, led by the brilliant Tara Penny. These are more than just news pieces — they’re stories that reflect our city, our challenges, and our commitment to making a difference, whether it’s diving into mental health conversations or navigating Joburg’s traffic chaos.
“We’ve always wanted to measure ourselves against the best in the world. These nominations are proof of the quality content we produce — and the connection we’ve built with our listeners and partners.”
Lloyd Madurai, MD of HOT 1027
Another Year, Another Awards Nod for HOT 1027
So, mark your calendars for 22 May 2025 — that’s when the winners will be announced. But no matter what happens, just being recognised on this global stage is already a massive win for us, our listeners, and South African radio as a whole.
Thank you for listening, supporting, and believing in what we do. From Joburg to New York — we’re just getting started!
