Tanya van Graan on Ard Matthews' surprise proposal
Local celebrities Tanya van Graan and Ard Matthews, have shared their joy at getting engaged on the weekend. The actress and the lead singer of the band Just Jinjer shared the joyous news – originally captured on video – on Hot 1027 Breakfast.
Ard popped the question to Tanya during a performance at Cafe Roux in Cape Town.
Fans of both stars have been eagerly awaiting details about their personal lives, and the announcement has sparked an outpouring of congratulations from the public. Tanya, known for her roles in various TV and film projects, and Ard, a celebrated musician, have both built successful careers in the entertainment industry, making their engagement even more significant to fans who have followed their journeys.
“I had to do a lot of things undercover because it’s hard to keep things away from Tania. I had a friend get the ring from the audience” Ard says.
He reflected on speaking to Tanya’s father (virtually) before proposing.
“Her dad’s way of saying yes was playing me a song on harmonica—he played ‘All Name Zion’ for some reason. I was crying, he was crying. It was as trippy as it gets, but I’ll take it as a yes.”
Tanya says she never expected the proposal.
“I had an idea, of course. He had to know where my father lives, but I thought it would be months away. That day completely took me by surprise.”
The couple’s shared excitement about their future together is evident, with Ard sharing a touching message of love and commitment, while Tanya expressed her joy at finding her soulmate. The engagement marks a new chapter for the pair, who have kept much of their relationship private until now.
As they look ahead to wedding plans, fans are eagerly anticipating further updates, hoping for a glimpse into the couple’s journey towards their big day.
But the couple has remained tight-lipped about their wedding plans.
“You will never know when the wedding is happening. No one will know!”
The announcement has undoubtedly been a highlight for many of their followers, who continue to shower them with best wishes.
