After Bafana Bafana’s thrilling victory over Rwanda secured their place in next year’s FIFA World Cup, one thing became clear — when there’s something to celebrate, “Coach” just can’t resist calling his friends at HOT 1027 Breakfast.
Listeners will remember the mysterious pre-match call from a man who sounded suspiciously like national coach Hugo Broos. But this morning, as South Africa basked in the glow of last night’s triumph, he was back on the line — full of joy, pride, and more than a little chaos.
“We haven’t stopped partying, Parky! I haven’t slept, the team hasn’t slept — we haven’t even showered! It’s like being back in Belgium!” he shouted over what sounded like a celebration still in full swing. The self-proclaimed coach could hardly contain his excitement, laughing, “I’m keeping my job! I’m so proud of the boys. We are going to make this country so proud!”
Between bursts of laughter, he shared that the “next big hurdle” would be “getting visas for the United States” ahead of the 2026 World Cup — before warning airport security to expect his “huge vuvuzela that doubles as a bong.”

It’s not the first time “Coach” has phoned in to chat with Parky and Bunny, but this time the joy felt real — echoing the scenes of jubilation fans saw on TV and social media channels last night.
Whether it’s the real Hugo Broos or just his biggest fan who called in, it seems whenever there’s a Bafana win, his first call is to the HOT 1027 Breakfast team.
