Teeing up history: Steyn City to host SA’s first LIV Golf event
Steyn City is teeing up for one of the most prestigious golf events to hit South African shores – the global LIV Golf series – and CEO Steven Louw couldn’t be more thrilled. Speaking to HOT 1027 Breakfast, Louw revealed that Steyn City will host LIV Golf’s South African debut, and preparations are already in full swing.
While the Stinger GC team, led by Louis Oosthuizen, has been pushing to bring the tournament home since LIV’s inception, things have only accelerated in the last few weeks. Louw says momentum picked up after Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie witnessed the buzz at an overseas LIV event and gave the green light. Now, with support from provincial logistics and Steyn City’s world-class infrastructure, the stage is set.
“What sets Steyn City apart is that it’s built to host something of this magnitude,” said Louw. “From our access roads to proximity to major airports and of course, the course itself – it’s ideal.”

The excitement is already palpable. The initial batch of 10,000 tickets sold out in 24 hours – a LIV Golf record – with over 25,000 already snapped up. Louw says fans can expect a “festival of golf and life,” with live music, vibrant atmospheres, and family-friendly access (kids under 12 get in free).
LIV has signed a multi-year deal with South Africa, while Steyn City holds a one-year commitment with renewal options. Notably, LIV has also pledged support for the Steyn City Foundation’s feeding schemes – part of the event’s mission to make a lasting social impact.
From booming drives to booming beats, the tournament is shaping up to be a game-changer – both on and off the green.
