Parky’s schoolyard romance gets the HOT 1027 Breakfast treatment
Listeners to HOT 1027 Breakfast were treated to a nostalgic — and utterly hilarious — trip back in time this morning, as Simon and Bunny reenacted what might have been a conversation between a young Parky and his then-girlfriend, Michelle.
Set in 1977 in the leafy suburb of Greendale, Salisbury (now Harare), the roleplay imagined a scene straight out of Parky’s youth. Bunny took on the role of Parky’s step-sister Jenny, while Simon transformed into a gravelly-voiced Michelle, dialing the landline and chain-smoking her way through the call with perfect 70s flair.
The phone rings at 3A Sherry Road, and Jenny answers with the cool skepticism of an older sibling. Michelle, raspy and sweetly awkward, asks to speak to Simon, before sharing a breathless teenage update: “Hell of a rough day at school, eh? Thanks for letting me copy your science homework… and I really loved that snog around the back of the tuckshop.”
It was the kind of wonderfully offbeat moment that only HOT 1027 Breakfast could pull off — filled with warm memories, exaggerated accents, and unexpected lines like, “You’ve got a tongue like an electric eel.”
If you missed the chaos, crack-ups and chain-smoking charm of Michelle, don’t worry — we’ve got the full audio waiting for you.
