Remember the moment in Whitney Houston’s iconic ballad I Will Always Love You when the drum hits just before the flood of that breathtaking final chorus? A new social-media craze has taken that moment and turned it into the viral “drum-beat challenge” — often called the #WhitneyHoustonChallenge.

🎬 What is the challenge?

Participants play the song and attempt to slam their hand or tap an object exactly on the initial drum beat that heralds the final chorus — if you hit the beat just right, the rest of the performance flows with glee. Miss it, and you’re visibly off-tempo. It’s fun, nerve-wracking… and surprisingly tricky.

✨ Famous faces giving it a try

Although the #WhitneyHoustonChallenge is still evolving, several music industry figures have tipped their hats to it. For instance, longtime producer Narada Michael Walden (who worked with Whitney) posted on Facebook:

“So proud to be part of the Whitney Houston drum … I’ve seen people doing …” Facebook

The official Whitney Houston Instagram page also features challenge reposts with the call-to-action: “Have you tried the #WhitneyHouston challenge?”
