“We know how to handle the pressure” — Proteas women confident ahead of India final

A breathtaking semi-final performance has cemented the Proteas Women’s spot in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Final — for the first time ever!

And as South Africa gears up for Sunday’s showdown against India, excitement is reaching fever pitch.

Speaking to HOT 1027 Breakfast live from Mumbai, assistant coach and former Proteas player Claire Terblanche shared her excitement and optimism as the team prepares to face India on their home turf.

“The team’s feeling really good,” Terblanche said. “We had a travel day yesterday, which gave everyone a much-needed rest, and the vibes are great around the camp.”

For Terblanche, the current momentum is the result of years of hard work and belief. “The real turning point came when we made the T20 World Cup final at home in South Africa,” she explained. “That success created a snowball effect — inspiring players, fans, and the next generation of girls to see what’s possible.”

The challenge ahead is immense. India will have the crowd behind them, and their batting depth is formidable. But Terblanche believes the Proteas’ experience in high-pressure matches gives them an edge. “We’ve been in two T20 finals, and those experiences count. We know how to handle the pressure.”

Standout players include captain Laura Wolvaardt — whose breathtaking 169 in the semi-final stunned fans — and star bowler Marizanne Kapp, who claimed a record-breaking five-wicket haul. Their combination of calm leadership and all-round brilliance will be key in Sunday’s showdown.

As Terblanche wrapped up the interview, she shared a message of gratitude: “Thank you, Joburg and Pretoria, for all the support. We feel it all the way here in India.”

The Proteas take on India in Mumbai this Sunday — and all of South Africa will be cheering.
