Jozi Runs HOT at the SPAR Women’s Challenge
The streets of Johannesburg came alive this weekend as more than 12,000 women laced up their running shoes for the SPAR Women’s Challenge — a vibrant celebration of strength, unity, and community spirit.
From sunrise, the atmosphere at Marks Park was electric. Music, colour, and laughter filled the air as runners, walkers, and supporters joined forces in one of Jozi’s most loved annual traditions — an event that’s as much about togetherness as it is about fitness.
South African marathon star Gerda Steyn described the morning as “a wonderful experience,” saying it’s always inspiring to see so many women come together to take on the city’s streets.
“Every year is just such a wonderful experience to see thousands and thousands of ladies taking on the streets of Johannesburg,” said Steyn. “The streets are challenging, but we do it together and we love every moment of it. To take on a challenge like this is always easier when you share it with others — and to see the community come together like this is truly inspiring.”
This year’s race carried a special buzz as HOT 1027 joined the festivities, bringing Jozi’s Best Old Skool and R&B along the route and keeping the energy high from start to finish.

Maxine D’Amico, Promotions and Advertising Manager for SPAR Inland, said the partnership captured exactly what the challenge is all about.
“We’re super excited to partner with HOT 102.7FM this year because they’re bringing the vibe,” said D’Amico. “Just to have partners that see our vision and support us really makes a difference. It’s not just a campaign — it’s a movement. Thank you to everybody for showing up from near and far.”
With cheering crowds, local performances, and countless smiles crossing the finish line, the 2025 SPAR Women’s Challenge proved once again that Johannesburg knows how to move — and how to move together.
