Teddython explained: All the ways your giving makes a difference

If you’ve ever been moved by the incredible stories you’ve heard on HOT 102.7FM – whether it’s a child finally receiving life-changing medical treatment, a struggling family getting back on their feet, or an animal shelter receiving much-needed support – it’s important to know that every single one of those moments is made possible by donations raised at Teddython.

Teddython brings Gauteng together for one incredible day of giving – and in 2025 that falls on Thursday 30 October from 6am to 6pm.

Those who know of Hot Cares’ immense impact, can appreciate how crucial this fundraising is. Whether it’s money, goods, services, or skills, every donation helps Hot Cares bring hope, dignity, and opportunity where it’s needed most.

Goods and services: more than just money

It’s not always about writing a cheque. Over the years, Hot Cares has seen an overwhelming response from individuals and businesses donating goods and services. These have included everyday essentials like food, shoes, and blankets, which go straight into feeding schemes, shelters, and old-age homes.

The medical sector has also stepped up, offering services like MRI scans, dentistry, counselling, and life-changing medical equipment such as wheelchairs, oxygen machines, and CPAP devices. Transport and courier companies have donated their resources to make sure food, supplies, and medical items get where they’re needed most.

Skills and trade services are equally valuable. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and mechanics have kept charities and families running smoothly, while training in first aid, computer skills, and even barbering has helped people build futures and become entrepreneurs. Even entertainment donations — from DJs and photographers to party catering — have added joy to community events.

Monthly recurring donations: small gifts, big impact

One of the most powerful ways to give is by becoming a monthly recurring donor. During Teddython, the station runs special “Power Hours” — dedicated moments throughout the broadcast that encourage listeners to pledge ongoing monthly donations from as little as R100.

It’s a simple idea with huge impact:

  • Two takeaway coffees = a month’s supply of sanitary pads for a girl at school.

  • One movie ticket = daily groceries for a family.

  • A monthly car wash = two sterilised dogs in a year.

These regular contributions keep vital projects running all year — from supporting children with medical needs and helping the elderly, to providing school transport and running sterilisation projects for animals. Small, consistent giving adds up to big change.

Tax and business benefits: the win-win

For companies and individuals, giving also comes with tangible rewards. Hot Cares is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) and a Level 1 BBBEE contributor. This means all donations — money, goods, or services — qualify for a Section 18A certificate, making them tax-deductible. Businesses benefit further by boosting their BBBEE scorecard while knowing their contributions are transforming lives.

This October, you can even make a difference just by dining out! Visit any Papachinos or Smoke Daddy’s, enjoy your favourite meal, and simply add a donation to the HOT 1027 Teddython right onto your bill.

Every donation matters

From blankets to bursaries, counselling to carpentry, or a simple monthly debit order, every donation makes an impact. For businesses, it’s also an opportunity to align doing good with real business value. That’s what makes Teddython special: it’s not about how much you give, but how your contribution — big or small — changes someone’s tomorrow.

“This year, it’s not about records – it’s about impact,” says MD Lloyd Madurai. “Every donation changes a life.”
