A Just Plain Memorial for a not-so-plain man

A private memorial service for veteran broadcaster Darren Scott will be held this Saturday, 7 June 2025 — and while the gathering itself will be intimate, the wider public is invited to join via a live stream, starting at 11:30am.

The event, fittingly titled A Just Plain Memorial, is a heartfelt nod to Darren’s long-running radio show Just Plain Darren, and will include tributes from his family, close friends, and colleagues who worked with him during his decades on South African airwaves.

Over the past week, HOT 102.7FM has paid tribute to Darren through special features, reflections from former co-hosts, and a powerful original song penned by Simon Parkinson titled Playing Darren, capturing the voice, impact and irreverent spirit of a true radio legend.

To coincide with the memorial, HOT 102.7FM will also dedicate the 12pm to 3pm show on Saturday to some of Darren’s most iconic on-air moments — a collection of clips that reflect the wit, passion, and unforgettable style he brought to every broadcast.

While the service itself remains private, the decision to live stream the memorial speaks to the massive outpouring of love and support received from fans and industry peers alike.

Darren Scott was never just a voice on the radio — he was a force of nature who changed the sound and tone of South African broadcasting. A Just Plain Memorial is a final chance for us all to remember him, laugh with him, and celebrate a life that was anything but ordinary.
