It’s a big day for South African cricket.
The Proteas head into a crucial Super Eight clash against the West Indies in the T20 World Cup — a match that could all but secure a place in the semi-finals. With both teams unbeaten, momentum, preparation and nerve will be everything.
There’s belief building around this squad. After a strong run through the tournament, including a significant win that boosted net run rate, South Africa find themselves in a powerful position. But today’s contest presents a serious test — particularly against a confident West Indies batting line-up.
Speaking on HOT 1027 Breakfast, former Protea Lance Klusener shared his thoughts on the team’s chances — and he likes what he sees. Listen to what he had to say below…
“For me, that’s how you deal with pressure — just making sure you’re fully prepared for what you’re going to face ahead of you.”
He believes South Africa’s stability in the tournament has been a quiet advantage. Limited travel, consistent conditions, and time spent in one venue could prove invaluable in a competition where margins are tiny.
“It’s those little things in big games that make a huge difference.”
Klusener sees today’s battle coming down to South Africa’s pace attack against the power of the West Indies top order — a contest that could define the match.
And looking ahead? His dream final is clear.
“Surely it’s got to be India and South Africa in the final.”
That would mean facing a roaring Indian crowd of more than 100,000 — but Klusener believes the Proteas would have plenty of neutral support.
For now, though, all eyes are on today. One more step. One more statement performance.
